The Flag Of The PCI

  • The Green Ichythus symbolises that the PCI is a Christian nation.
  • The darkest, and largest, band represents the World. It is included in the flag to show the PCI's commitment to global citizenship.
  • The lower-middle band symbolises the Sea and other geographical features that distinguish the Coral Islands.
  • The upper-middle band represents the history of the PCI.
  • The highest band represents the hopes of all PCI citizens.
  • The Principality Of The Coral Islands was granted complete autonomy from the Imperial Powers two-hundred years ago, but at the time it flew the colonial flag. During the First World War, when the Coral Islands were blockaded, the colonial economy collapsed and the people of the PCI were, for once, forced to be completely self-sufficient. Even after the Great War, when trade was reopened, the anti-colonial sentiment was still prevalent. With the outbreak of the Second World War, there was a wave of nationalism as the PCI proved to be a capable defender of the local Sea. To celebrate this feeling of nationalism and independence the government of the day commissioned the country's premier artist, Ardneks Orbdim, to create a pennant under which the naval vessels could sail. The "Four Blues And A Fish" was made the Naval Standard on VE-Day. On the day that the War officially ended, it was proclaimed the National Flag.
